This summer, Canadian reggae band MAGIC! has stormed the charts with its breezy new song "Rude." In the song, frontman and songwriter Nasri Atweh asks a father for his daughter's hand in marriage, and he is so rudely turned down. But now, in a new viral video papa is speaking up and it seems like the suited up suitor isn't all he boasts himself to be.

Entitled "RUDE (The Dad's Side of the Story)" parents Benji and Jenna Cowart answer Atweh's plea with a few surprising revelations: they've never met this man before, he serves fast food for a living and drives a beat-up Pinto... not exactly a dream man for any father's daughter.

"Saturday morning came without warning / Woke me up from my bed / Seeking permission to marry my princess / Something's wrong with your big head," he sings to the tune of the original MAGIC! single. "It's the first time I met you / Why would I let you run off with my baby girl? / Get back in your Pinto, it's time that you go / The answer's no."

The father later on insists he's not so "Rude," he's just looking out for his child's best interest. However, if the man marries his daughter anyway, he's in for a punch in the face and maybe a little more.

The clever play on MAGIC!'s single gives another side to the story but it's not without its faults. Like, seriously, why is the wife just carrying laundry around in the background? Couldn't she have sat and sang for the camera too? It's almost as awkward as having to face a disapproving daddy...
