There's been much speculation surrounding the late entertainer known as "The Hardest Working Man In Show Business" but the forthcoming James Brown biopic will set the record straight.

Chadwick Boseman, who stars as Brown in the film titled Get On Up, recently opened up about his role and Brown's life.

In an interview for MSNBC conducted by The Grio, Boseman revealed what he thinks to be the biggest misconception the public has about Brown.

"I think people usually make statements about him being crazy. Most people think that he was on drugs his whole life, and that's absolutely not true," Boseman said. "There was a period of time where he did make that a part of his life, but it wasn't the entire time. In fact, he spent a lot of time being anti-drugs, a lot of time making songs about that."

Get On Up, which has received the blessing of Brown's family, is slated to hit theaters August 1.

"Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century," the movie's site says.

The film will also star Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.

Boseman also starred as Jackie Robinson in last year's critically acclaimed biopic, 42 but he says he does not plan to get typecast as an actor who brings legends to life.

"The rest of the characters need to be made up. No more icons until God sends one."
