John Legend has started rehearsing for Jesus Christ Superstar Live! Chrissy Teigen's husband will be playing the role of Jesus Christ in NBC's Easter Sunday special.

The network dropped a 40-second teaser, which shows Legend talking to Harvey Mason Jr., a music producer. During his practice, Legend hits his high notes with ease. Mason Jr. appears to be extremely proud of him.

The teaser for Jesus Christ Superstar Live! also confirmed that the show will be released on April 1 at 8 p.m. EST. Sara Bareilles and Alice Cooper are also part of the cast. Bareilles will play the role of Mary Magdalene, while Cooper will bring to life the character of King Herod.

Other cast members include Ben Daniels as Pontius Pilate, Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas, Norm Lewis as Caiaphas, Erik Gronwall as Simon Zealotes, Jason Tam as Peter, and Jin Ha as Annas.

Jesus Christ Superstar Live! will be performed on stage at the Marcy Armory in Williamsburg. The show is executive produced by Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Alex Rudzinski, the co-director of Grease and Hairspray, will be directing the show for television.

John Legend Talks About 'Jesus Christ Superstar Live!'

Earlier this year, Legend opened up about his role in the stage play. While on NBC's The Today Show, the 39-year-old musician said that he is proud of the project, which he is also producing.

"It's such an ancient story, but I think the genius of the original was that it brought the story to the current time of when it was written, and I think we're going to try to make it feel like it's timeless and all current," said Legend.

John Legend Talks About His Fertility Struggles

Other than his involvement in Jesus Christ Superstar Live! Legend is also busy taking care of his daughter Luna. His wife is also pregnant with their second child. However, things have not always been easy for the couple. They struggled with fertility issues and resulted in IVF years ago.

"I think it's especially difficult when you can't conceive naturally. You want to feel like everything's working properly and want everything to be perfect, but sometimes it's not. I wouldn't say we can't conceive naturally, but I would say that it's enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help," said Legend.

The "All of Me" singer also said that he is lucky to be living at a time where IVF is already possible.
