Christina Aguilera has revealed the real reason why she left The Voice in 2016 where she served as a coach for six years.

The 37-year-old is doing press tours to promote her upcoming album. Earlier this year, she appeared barefaced and fresh on the cover of Paper Magazine. For May, the singer-songwriter dazzled in a black-and-white cover of Billboard Magazine.

In an interview, the mother of two talked about her music, going back on the road to tour, and her time as a coach on the popular singing competition on NBC.

Looking Back

Aguilera was one of the original coaches who served as a judge since the first season of The Voice. Alongside Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and CeeLo Green, the recording artist stayed on the show for six seasons from 2011 to 2016.

"It became something that I didn't feel was what I had signed up for in season one," she told Billboard. "You realize it's not about music. It's about making good TV moments and massaging a story."

The Grammy Award-winning singer added that, eventually, she needed to get out and do her own thing.

"I didn't get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these [rules]," she explained. "Especially as a female: You can't wear this, can't say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet."

The "Beautiful" singer called the show an "energy sucker."

However, she felt that she had to stay on the show for her kids, Max and Summer. Aguilera revealed that she was afraid to go back on tour because she did not want to uproot the young ones. The Voice provided a cushy job that let her and her family stay in one place.

First New Song

While her stint on The Voice stunted her creative process, Aguilera found renewed energy through her new album, Liberation, which will drop on June 15. It features a collaboration with Demi Lovato and a song written by Julia Michaels.

According to sources, the album also has a song produced by Kanye West.

On Thursday, May 3, she released her first new track in six years. The song is titled "Accelerate," and it features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz.

In the music video, Aguilera did not shy away from showing skin and exuding sex appeal. Watch the video below.
