Sean "Diddy" Combs purchases Kerry James Marshall's painting called Past Times for $21 million. The artwork's narrative is centered on black experiences.

Last week, Sotheby's, an art dealer company, organized an auction for Marshall's creation. After it had been sold, fans were curious to know if Past Times ended up with a collector or a museum. Later on, they found out that the music producer was the one that bought it.

The $21 million price tag is considered an auction high for Marshall. Combs's purchase also happens to be the most that the African-American artist has received.

Jack Shainman Releases Statement

A day after the auction concluded, Marshall's gallerist and art dealer Jack Shainman confirmed that the Grammy winner purchased it.

"I know that this work has found a home in a collection with purpose and an eye toward preserving legacy - that of Sean Combs and that means a lot," said Shainman.

He also said that Combs's good friend, Swizz Beatz, introduced him to Marshall's work. Swizz Beatz also happens to be the husband of Alicia Keys.

Who Is Kerry James Marshall?

Marshall has been dubbed as a local hero in Chicago. He also has some ties with several museums such as the Met Breuer, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles.

His works are centered on black people, specifically about youths, homes, nudes, racial stereotypes, and more.

Sean Combs Throws Huge Party

In related news, Combs also made headlines last weekend when he hosted a huge party at Story Nightclub in Miami. Justin Timberlake also made an appearance at the gathering.

"[Timberlake] rolled up to the club around 1:30 a.m., where he met with Puff Daddy in the club's VIP area behind the DJ booth... [Diddy] requested the DJ to play the song 'Holy Grail' and handed Justin the mic. Justin sang along to the track and Puff amped the crowd," said a source.

Combs's son, Quincy Brown, was also present at the party. Jessica Biel, Timberlake's wife, was not around at the time. The "Man of the Woods" singer left the nightclub around 3:30 a.m. with his group of friends.
