"Entourage" actor Debi Mazar confirms she tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in an Instagram post, Saturday evening, March 21.
The actress, known for her no-nonsense roles, has shared that she has also contracted the disease. In a lengthy IG post, she assured her 404K followers "I AM OK" before sharing that also her husband and two teen daughters got what she called an "odd bug" characterized by "low grade fever, headaches, sore throat, body aches, [ringing ears], and a dry cough."
She then continued that two weeks later, she woke up with the same symptoms but with "super intense body aches, and [a] 102.4 fever." When she thought that she might have the flu or COVID-19, she called a "doctor/friend" to get tested for the coronavirus but was denied because she didn't meet the criteria, which are recent travel out of the country and contact with a confirmed positive.
The "Goodfellas" and "Younger" star found the criteria "crazy" because of her activities that involve contact with other people such as taking the subway or going to public places.
On March 17, Mazar had herself tested for the flu, which came back negative. She then had herself tested for COVID-19 before being sent home and advised to self-quarantine. She got the result on the "day 5" of her quarantine, Saturday. She hopes that she has been through "the worst" and describes her experience as being very "morphy."
"One day I feel crappy and the next I'm normal," Debi describes in the post. She went on to explain that as she posted on IG, her lungs are heavy but assured her followers that she is "tough." She advised her followers to "stay home" and protect themselves and their loved ones.
The actress further noted that her family is now also under the 14-day self-quarantine. While she wrote that her family shows no symptoms, she thinks they "all had it possibly already."
Debi Mazar is married to the Italian celebrity chef and television personality, Gabriele Corcos, since 2002. She starred in "Extra Virgin," a show on the Cooking Channel created and produced by her husband back in 2014. Together, they have two teenage daughters, Giulia and Evelina, who are with them as they divide their time between Brooklyn and a 15th-century home near Florence, Italy. The home near Florence was a wedding gift to the couple by Mazar's in-laws.
Mazar now joins the growing roster of Hollywood names who tested positive for the highly contagious virus. Other celebrities who are currently confronting the disease include "Lost" star Daniel Dae Kim, "Game of Thrones" actor Kristofer Hivju, music producer Andrew Watt, singer Charlotte Lawrence, NBA stars Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert, and actors Idris Elba, Rachel Matthews, and Olga Kurylenko. The global pandemic has forced countries around the world to postpone or cancel their various film festivals and music events.
Meanwhile, actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson who earlier tested positive for the disease while in Australia have already been discharged and are currently recovering under quarantine.
According to the monitoring done by experts at Johns Hopkins University, more than 300,000 people have already contracted COVID-19 and almost 13,000 have died worldwide as of March 22.
