In an interview with Barefoot Sound, R&B record producer Ian Cross confirmed that pop superstar Janet Jackson is currently in the studio working on a new album, which would be her eleventh overall, and her first since 2008's Discipline.

"The new album is going to be great," Cross promises, "It's a process. There's a lot in store, yet to come. I can't go into too many details but I think Janet Jackson's fans are going to be very excited about the new album, and I think people who don't know her as fans are going to be excited about it, too."

Cross has had plenty of experience working with Jackson in the past, having engineered her last three studio albums, as well as serving as vocal producer for Jackson's last album Discipline. "Janet [Jackson] and I had a little bit more of a special relationship because we became friends naturally," says Cross, explaining how he came to be involved with Jackson's music. "You meet a lot of people and you become friends with a couple of them, but sometimes there is one person you become really good friends with...She asked me to work on an album with her called Discipline in 2007 and, again, just do the same thing, produce the vocals. That led to her hiring me full-time to work with her. That's where I'm at now."

This new album was recorded in various places across the globe, with Cross confirming that sessions have taken place in Qatar and Paris. "The Janet Jacksons of the world can't just spend their time in one city anymore," he explains.
