The Mississippi Mudbug Festival's final day got canceled after a shooting incident happened in the area, organizers confirmed.

On Sunday, the event's heads revealed that a shooting incident, which left a law enforcement officer dead and several others injured, occurred on Saturday. With that, they decided to cancel the final day to ensure everyone's safety.

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson told WJTV that they secured the scene to prevent other people from sustaining any injury.

"Safety is a priority at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds. I appreciate the rapid response from the Hinds County Sheriff's Office and the Jackson Police Department. Their quick action in securing the scene prevented others from potentially being hurt," he said.

Meanwhile, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones detailed that several people were transported to local hospitals due to yet-to-be-known injuries. He added that an officer-involved shooting probe is currently underway, adding that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to help the authorities in the investigation, per Billboard.

Jones then added that two or three people exchanged gunfire at around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday at a fairgrounds parking lot.

"During the course of the exchange, at least one of these individuals fired multiple rounds, multiple shots, toward the midway area of the event that was in progress," he said. "We do not believe there was anybody else injured along the midway during the course of this gunfire."

Blue Oyster Cut was the headliner at Saturday's event. The band members nor their representatives have not commented on the event yet.

As of this time, the Hinds County Sheriff said that no arrests had been made but confirmed that two juveniles were already detailed for questioning. The responders also found two rifles and a pistol at the scene.

Refunds will be available automatically to those who bought the tickets through Ticketmaster. For fans who purchased theirs at the Coliseum Box Office, organizers reminded them to bring their tickets to the box office in order to claim the refund.

Gipson then expressed his gratitude to Hinds County Sheriff's Office and the Jackson Police Department for their quick response.
