Demi Lovato disclosed that, after over eight months of abstinence, they "rarely" though about doing drugs. This is naturally, a welcome development for the one struggling singer and actress. They revealed that if it is not of their own volition and desire, all strategies to be sober and clean would be fruitless.

"I'm in such acceptance of my life the way that it is that I really rarely think about substances, which is a beautiful thing and something that I never thought would happen to me," the pop star revealed cheerfully on Boston radio station Mix 104.1 on Thursday.

"And I just realized that none of it works for me. What's come into my life is acceptance."

Lovato, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, claimed that it took them so long to quit drinking and using drugs because they lacked the desire.

"I had people around me that wanted me to be sober," the singer, 29, said. "I don't think that I wanted it. And now, I made all the bargaining choices and I realized that none of it works for me."

In the same interview, Demi Lovato said they have a great empathy for Shawn Mendes' shoes.

Following Shawn's revelation that he will postpone certain dates of his Wonder global tour for his mental health, the "Anyone" singer said that they are rooting for him. They stated that it was a perfectly valid explanation and that they could sympathize.

"My heart goes out to Shawn because I know what it's like to get out on the road and not be ready for it. I know what it's like to feel overworked or burnt out," Demi explained. They said it is certainly not a nice way to feel.

The 29-year-old, who began touring at age 15, acknowledged the mental and physical toll that performance can take on an artist.

In spite of their near-fatal overdose in 2018, which resulted in three strokes and a heart attack, Lovato maintained a "California sober" lifestyle and continued to consume alcohol and marijuana in moderation.

In December 2021, however, Lovato stated that they "no longer support my 'California sober' methods."

The singer of "Sorry Not Sorry" stated, "Sober sober is the only way to live."

In order to commemorate their new journey, Lovato's most recent album, "Holy Fvck," is entirely sober.

"After going through even more stuff last year, I came out of treatment again and I realized, I really want to do this for myself and I want to make the best album possible, something that really represents who I am," Lovato told Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" back in June.

They said that the album before "Holy Fvck" was not a clean one, but this latest one -- sha made sure it is.
