Will W.A.S.P's Blackie Lawless retire soon?

Blackie Lawless, whose real name is Steven Edward Duren, and his band offered the first shows for their upcoming 40th anniversary fall US Tour. The heavy metal band is set to appear at Mexico Metal Fest 2022 before starting its 40 Years Live World Tour in House of Blues Las Vegas in October.

Before its highly-anticipated tour, Blackie Lawless sat for an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture where he discussed W.A.S.P's rise to fame, its longevity, and thoughts about retirement.

The news outlet that a lot of bands came back and hit the road to do their farewell tours.

While W.A.S.P's tour sparked a similar buzz, the frontman clarified that "retirement does not appeal to him."

"I mean, my natural reaction, I'm the kind of person that I would want to just do it till I can't do it anymore. And then I'd just stop. You know, one day you just don't go into the office anymore. I don't want a gold watch from anybody for my years of servitude. That's not my thing. But I do think that you would have an obligation to let people know if you were indeed gonna stop," he went on.

Blackie Lawless noted that the band has been fortunate enough in the past years. Thus, he and the members do not have anything to stop them from performing.

In addition, he shared how blessed a person could be to make a living in their hobby and passion.

What To Expect in W.A.S.P's Tour

Aside from bringing the best music they ever released, Blackie Lawless confirmed to the news outlet that there are songs he feels excited to play on W.A.S.P's tour.

However, he could not name any of those yet since the band has not rehearsed yet.

"They played that record live so many times, they know the reaction it's gonna have on people. But by the time you get to your second record, you don't have that ability anymore to go out and, you know, beta test on audiences that material. Those days are gone. So you have to just kind of go on a wing and a prayer," Blackie Lawless added.

In the end, he hyped the fans by confirming that Elvis the microphone stand would return on stage soon.
