Rapper Common is set to make a debut on Broadway this coming Winter in the Pulitzer-winning play "Between Riverside and Crazy."

Set to play a son of an ex-cop the rapper is set to show his acting prowess in the dark comedy play that is set to open in late November this year.

If all goes well and Common unleashed an award-winning performance, he could be following the footsteps of his close friend and frequent collaborator John Legend in achieving EGOT status.

Common Debuts on Broadway Play 'Between Riverside and Crazy'

Common, formally known as Lonnie Rashid Lynn, is driving towards a rather unfamiliar road - to Broadway.

He is set to make his debut on a theatre stage in the Pulitzer-winning Drama "Between Riverside and Crazy" where he will play the lead character Junior, the son of ex-cop Walter "Pops" Washington.

The play follows the duo as they fight to hold on to one of the last rent-stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive amid the rehashing of old wounds and in the face of sketchy new houseguests and a final ultimatum, Billboard reports.

The GRAMMY-winning rapper will be joining the play's already-established Off-Broadway cast - Victor Almanzar, Rosal Colón, Michael Rispoli, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Stephen McKinley Henderson, playing as his father, among many other actors.

The play is long due for a Broadway production. In 2015 it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was also nominated for the Drama League Award, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Lucille Lortel Awards where it won Outstanding Play.

With the material already widely recognized in the industry, it might be a walk in the park for Common to get his hands on his highly-awaited Tony.

Common Is a Tony Away to Achieving EGOT Status

Common is one trophy short before he could include himself on the coveted list of EGOT winners in the entertainment industry.

He already has an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Glory" in 2015 and a GRAMMY for the same song that won Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Common also sealed an Emmy win last 2017 for the documentary "13th," winning Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Should he win a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play or even a Featured Actor, Common could see himself on the EGOT list.
