After not releasing any album for the past seven years, The Libertines are back and fans may get a new record before this year ends, but the big question is; when is it coming out?

Pete Doherty recently attended the AIM Independent Music Awards 2022 where he revealed that he and his bandmate Carl Barât have been spending time in Jamaica to work on new songs that will be a part of their highly-anticipated album. (via Music-News)

"We've got a new album on the way, it's been quite productive. Just trying to write some new songs," he said. (via NME)

As of this writing, neither of the two members has revealed an official title and tracklist for their upcoming record. However, regarding its release date, Doherty told the outlet in June that they're hoping to release the album before the year ends.

The Libertines Upcoming Album

Although he never revealed any specific date, he's excited for fans to hear it as there are "lots of things on the table" which are songs with strong and heavy melodic rock 'n' roll undertones.

When asked about the album's completion, he added, "by the end of the year, I think - hopefully. We'll get the demos done in the summer hopefully, and then we'll see."

In a previous interview, drummer Gary Powell also teased about their fourth album, saying everybody in the band has been writing songs.

Regarding its sound, he clarified that they're not trying to "reinvent the wheel" but they wanted to push their limits a little bit without losing the "same emotional integrity" that their fans seek to see when watching them perform.

Seven years have passed the last time the band released an album. "Anthems For Doomed" received massive success and garnered positive reviews from critics.

The Libertines previously celebrated the 20th anniversary of their first album "Up The Bracket" at the Wembley Arena in London last July. The band performed the full album in front of thousands of attendees.

Even though they still don't have an official release date for their upcoming record, fans can purchase a Super Deluxe Edition of their debut album this October.

They limited-edition merchandise includes 65 recordings that were never released to the public, original demos, live recordings, and many more. In addition, it will have a book with a foreword written by Wilkinson.
