Since the release of Netflix's "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," many online users have been calling out singers who included the convicted murderer's name in their songs. One of the artists embroiled in the controversy was Kesha and her mother, Pebe Sebert, is now defending her after the backlash.

Taking to her official TikTok account, Sebert, who's also a songwriter, spoke out about the "big controversy" over her daughter's song "Cannibal" originally released in 2010.

She noted that the Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in the track was written by her. She later defended the pop star as she and the other songwriter were too young to know who Dahmer was at the time.

"Literally the way it happened was I have this rhyming program called MasterWriter for songwriters. We were looking for a rhyme for 'goner.' At the very end of the widest rhymes was 'Jeffrey Dahmer,'" she added. (Via Billboard)

Upon figuring out the lyric that rhymed, Sebert said she found the "perfect lyric."

Pebe Sebert Explains the Meaning of 'Cannibal'

Before explaining what the song was about, the singer's mom shared a disclaimer that she didn't want to be insensitive about what happened to Dahmer's victims and their families.

At the time when they were writing the song, she said it was inspired by Kesha as she was not the most popular student in high school to the point that no one asked her to the prom.

When she amassed massive success because of her music career, Sebert said the boys who never paid attention to her immediately asked her if she had remembered them.

She further explained that the song was not actually about cannibalism, but rather a "tongue-in-cheek" funny song.

Later on, Sebert offered her apologies to the victims' families, saying they never meant to hurt anybody about the song. She noted that there's a Netflix series about Dahmer recently and it's bringing the attention back.

She also clarified that the song has been released for more than a decade not and it was not something that they recently wrote.

In the end, the songwriter clarified that Jeffrey Dahmer's name wouldn't be in the song if it wasn't for the MasterWriter that showed his name because he was a famous person for all the wrongdoings he did in the past.
