Paul Weller, the former singer of The Jam, launched a full-on personal attack on The Cure's frontman, Robert Smith, he also shared his deep dislike towards the rock band.

During his interview for Record Collector's December issue, Weller was notified that one of the songs on Noel Gallagher's upcoming album sounds a lot like "A Forest," The Cure's 1980 song.

The former The Jam singer did not take too well to the comment, "Really?! I don't know about that I can't f**king stand them."

"F**king fat c**t, with his lipstick and all that b*****ks. He is my age as well, isn't he?" He went on, referring to Smith.

If the interviewer was looking for something to quote, they definitely got it because Weller had a lot to say about the singer-songwriter. "He's a f**king knob-end, man. I don't like him. I wouldn't work with him. there you go, there's someone I wouldn't work with. I'd f***ing slap him or something."

According to reports, Smith also made a remix of "Pretty Boy," by Gallagher, which might just make Weller more irate and furious should he have known.

History

There are suspicions that The Jam's frontman might be furious for several reasons, although he did not disclose it in his interview.

Some suggest that it might be because The Jam had inadvertently assisted The Cure in recording "Three Imaginary Boys," their debut album.

According to Rolling Stone, Smith revealed that they used The Jam's equipment to record their album.

"The Jam were recording their album during the day, and we used to sneak in at night and use their equipment - we knew the bloke who was looking after it - to record our album. We just borrowed tape and stuff," he said.

Another theory on why the two might have this long-standing feud dates back to 1985. In an interview, Smith claimed that punk "was not a political movement."

"The thing with punk when it started in 1976, it was entertainment, it had nothing to do with social upheaval or politics. It later became that because people wanted it to be seen as a movement," the rock star said.

Following Weller's scathing comments about Smith, his bandmate decided to step up and share his thoughts on the matter.

Roger O' Donnell, The Cure's keyboardist, responded to Weller by quoting Spike Milligan, "I've always thought, as Spike Milligan said, people who live in glass houses should pull the blinds down before removing their trousers... Mr. Weller?"

With the decades-long feud, there is no certainty that the beef will be over any time soon. As of this writing, Smith is yet to respond to Weller's personal attacks against him.
