The pop-punk scene has significantly returned this year as many artists, new and old, brought back the early 2000s by releasing their own take on the genre. More recently, one of its pioneers, Avril Lavigne, credited two artists for their music that ultimately resulted in the resurgence of the genre.

As part of Billboard's Year In Music, the pop-punk princess said there are so many things that happened within the music industry this year, especially in her genre, and she's happy to get back on track again.

There are many things that Lavigne is thankful for like getting to perform in front of her fans again, traveling to different countries around the world, and it's all because of the energy that pop-punk has given her.

She noted that the genre is really special for her and it's something that she found was missing over the past few years, but the singer is also thankful that she went back to her roots.

Lavigne may be one of the pioneers of the music genre that defined a generation, but she credited two artists that made pop-punk famous in the 2020s again.

"I think a lot of the resurgence of pop-punk in general started when Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker teamed up for [MGK's 2020 album] 'Tickets to My Downfall,' and that album was so successful," she said.

Since then, pop punk can be found everywhere from music to fashion.

"Most importantly, there has been a return of live guitars and drums that pushed pop-punk into the forefront of mainstream music," she added.

Lavigne was also happy to be reconnected with the original audience of the genre as well as introduce it to a newer and younger demographic.

She also reunited with some of the famous musicians of her generation when she became a part of the When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas like We The Kings' Travis Clark, All Time Low, and many more.

There was a touching part in her interview where she revealed that Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams wrote a letter to her as an expression of gratitude because Lavigne paved the way for young women like her in the music industry.
