Morrissey clearly did not have a merry Christmas. The singer-songwriter is taking a completely different direction with his music and his career by parting ways with his label.

According to reports, just before the holiday weekend, the 63-year-old singer took to his website to announce some big and shocking news.

The announcement was titled "Roll On 2023," and it read: "Morrissey has voluntarily parted company with Maverick/Quest management. Morrissey has also voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records (Los Angeles)."

Reports do not note how this career maneuver will affect the former Smiths frontman, but he, apparently, was not finished with the announcements.

A day after his initial announcement, came another. This time, it had something to do with his upcoming "hidden" album, which is slated to be released next year.

The announcement was titled "Miley Cyrus Is a Punk Rocker," and it read: "Miley Cyrus now wants to be taken off the song 'I Am Veronica' for which she volunteered backing vocals almost two years ago."

Perhaps the wound from his leaving Capitol Records was still fresh because the announcement also mentioned the singer-songwriter's departure yet again.

"This comes at a time when Morrissey has disassociated himself with Capitol Records (Los Angeles), who control the hidden album "Bonfire of Teenagers.""

Aside from the announcement, the website also shows a picture of Morrissey and Cyrus from the session for the song, "I Am Veronica," Deadline reported.

What Now?

According to NME, the news of Morrissey leaving Capitol Records might not come as a complete surprise to some, as the two have had a rocky relationship after the former's website released a statement regarding the singer's album.

"'Bonfire of Teenagers" is no longer scheduled for a February release, as stated by this site. Its fate is exclusively in the hands of Capitol Records (Los Angeles)."

Cyrus' collab song with Morrissey was supposed to be included in this album, which Morrissey described as "the best album of [his] life."

However, now that he has encountered several roadblocks with its release, many wonder how the dramatic singer-songwriter will fare.

"Bonfire of Teenagers" reportedly boasted a star-studded tracklist, with collaborations with Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith, Josh Klinghoffer, and Flea.

Morrissey is definitely one of those acts that have several controversies lining their belt, with his most recent one being his abruptly stopping his concert after a couple of songs. He walked off stage without much of an explanation.
