Aside from Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, the social media space in the internet has widely expanded in the past few years.

With the introduction and utilization of TikTok, musicians, bands, singers, and even government agencies have resorted to the video sharing platform to penetrate their respective audiences.

It also became another channel and avenue for content creators to saturate the public, also becoming an arm for business for a more relatable and effective marketing.

While the impact of the platform had been minimized by many before, Jason Derulo is coming forward right now, claiming responsibility for its success now.

In a recent interview with Kick Game UK, the singer boldly claimed that he changed the app when it was still at the first few phases.

"I had fun with it, honestly. In the beginning it was a dance app. Because it's a dance app, I thought, I don't know if it's going to work. Everyone doesn't like to dance. Then I thought, 'Let me start posting other shit'. I tried to post a picture, but it didn't work. People would say, 'What the fuck is this?' So I started posting random story-like videos. It didn't work," he said.

Before, the app was still named musical.ly, but it was only limited to dance choreographies and videos.

"I think it changed the app forever because TikTok used to be just a dance app, and it wasn't until I started introducing other things that it became the app it is today. And to this day, TikTok pays me... Let me not say that," he revealed.

Shortly after his statements went viral online, the disagreement on his statements went through the roof, noting the he was "delusional" for even claiming that it was his "impact" that made the app what it is right now.

However, a 2021 Variety article supports Derulo's claim.

Isabel Quinteros Annous, TikTok's head of music partnerships and artist relations affirmed to the publication that even before the lockdown, she started collaborating with DeRulo - brainstorming possible ways and best practices and content creation plan and strategies for artists in the app.

To date, Jason Derulo has over 56 million followers, he is now the 14th most follow personality on the social media platform, steps behind stars like Addison Rae and Charli D'Amelio, among many others.
