A statement from Beck's family confirmed the guitarist's death on Wednesday. It disclosed that the rock guitarist passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78 at a hospital near his home in Surrey, England.

"On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck's passing," his official Facebook page said. "After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family asks for privacy while they process this tremendous loss."

His death ended his decades-old of career, which started in 1964.
