Kiss is considered one of the most legendary bands in rock music and it has been proven by their track record after being inducted at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Today, Gene Simmons is finally revealing the secret to their success and it's not something most people would expect.

Speaking to AXS TV, the bassist said one of the main reasons why they managed to become big stars in the music industry despite not having many number-one hits is because they don't "play the game."

Simmons further explained that the heavy metal group decided not to compete with other genres like pop music because musicians in that field are trying to figure out "those saccharine sweet melodies and choruses that had to do with love and heartbreak and so on." (via Louder Sound)

In their case, they wanted to release music that would "put together an entire statement" and a body of work, contrary to other artists that would release only one song.

Over their decades-long career, Kiss only placed number 7 in the US with the song "Beth," making it their highest placement in the charts.

Elsewhere in the interview, the musician opened up about the thing that he loves the most about being in the band, which is constantly going up on stage and performing in front of their fans because he considers it as a "holy ground" or an "electric church."

Is Gene Simmons Leaving KISS Anytime Soon?

Last year, the bassist spoke to the New York Post where he opened up about possibly retiring soon because of his age, saying he couldn't keep up with the band's physical demands like wearing 40 pounds of armor and 7-inch platform shoes.

Simmons added that he didn't want to sit in a chair and play the guitar while performing on stage like those who are in the blues genre, adding, "I know you can't stay on the stage too long. Better get off while the getting's good."

In other updates, Kiss announced last month that they would perform in the final leg of their tour in the United Kingdom and Europe.

The final set of shows would start at Plymouth's Home Park on June 2, 2023, before heading to several cities like Newcastle and Birmingham.
