This year's Grammy Awards have been trending all over social media over the past few days as many fans celebrated the wins of their favorite artists, but not all are in favor of the biggest event in music as Grimes recently alleged that she was blocked from nominating a late artist; what happened?

According to AV Club, the issue began when Charli XCX took to her official Instagram account to call out the Recording Academy for not nominating her album "Crash."

The "What You Think About Me" musician compared her not being nominated for a Grammy to Mia Goth not being nominated for an Oscar after her performance on "Pearl."

She added that it "only further proves that people don't wanna see hot evil girls thrive."

Grimes, a good friend of Charli, later took to the comment section to say that the awards show is "irrelevant" and she "wouldn't even sweat it."

The experimental singer, later claimed that she was a part of the producer of the year board and the executives allegedly won't allow her to nominate "anyone who wasn't on a pre-fabricated list that was exceptionally boring."

Grimes noted that there were only three women on the board and she's the only person who's under 40 years old.

Concluding her statement, the musician revealed that she attempted to nominate the late music producer SOPHIE (Sophie Xeon) but the board hindered her. As of this writing, the singer did not share more information or revealed the reason why the late musician was not nominated.

The outlet noted that even though SOPHIE died in 2021 and has not received a Grammy Award in her career, she was honored at this year's ceremony after Sam Smith and Kim Petras made history after winning the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their collaborative track "Unholy."

Petras, who became the first openly transgender pop musician to ever win a Grammy, took the opportunity to thank the late record producer during her speech.

"Sophie, especially, my friend who passed away two years ago, who told me this would happen and always believed in me... Thank you so much for your inspiration, Sophie, I adore you and your inspiration will always be in your music," she added.

SOPHIE passed away in January 2021 after accidentally falling from the roof-top of a building in Athens, Greece. The transgender pop producer was 34 years old.
