Maynard James Keenan is known for being energetic on stage whenever he performs with his band Tool. However, through the years, he had difficulty singing some of the group's earlier songs; find out below why.

According to KeyJ, the band will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first album, "Undertow," and the rocker would also turn 59 in a few weeks.

More recently, the rockstar spoke to Steve O's "Wild Ride!" podcast where he was asked to sing some of Tool's older songs on stage as he never performed it over the past few years.

The musician did not hesitate to answer as he later compared himself to an "old Barracuda man," saying his age is one of the biggest factors why he doesn't sing some of their classics whenever he performs at concerts.

"I think with age you find ways to sing the thing where it's not creating damage. You can actually recreate it without having to pick a scab, emotionally and literally, like hurting yourself," he said.

In addition, Keenan also noted that he write songs differently in recent years and those are the ones he could sing on stage.

However, when it comes to some older tracks, he couldn't do it and fans shouldn't expect that he could still do things he did decades ago.

"Your body is not going to allow you to perform the way you used to perform at certain ages. You can apply that to pretty much anybody," he added.

Tool Tour 2023: Is It Really Happening Soon?

Even though Maynard James Keenan revealed his vocal struggles, it doesn't mean Tool will not be performing on stage anymore as they are rumored to go on tour this year.

It all began when member Adam Jones shared a video on social media in February where the band can be seen rehearsing their track "Rosetta Stoned."

Fans later speculated that their rehearsals could be for an upcoming tour this year, but Tool has yet to announce any information about it.

Supporters shouldn't be sad if the band has yet to reveal their series of concerts as they are set to perform in a few festivals this 2023.
