George Michael is known throughout the decades for singing the famous track "Careless Whisper" and his song recently amassed a massive milestone online.

Despite not being a fan of the singer, many people, regardless of which generation they came from, recognizes the 1984 classic single.

According to Forbes, the song has now surpassed one billion views on YouTube decades after its original release. It's the one of the only eight songs from the 1980s decade to amass that number.

George Michael 'Careless Whisper' Background

Per the outlet, the late pop singer's smash hit has a famous and recognizable saxophone riff. The track was originally written by George Michael and his bandmate Andrew Ridgeley.

The song made it to Wham!'s album "Make it Big" at the time when the musician was dabbling into a different sound and direction of his music.

Even though "Careless Whisper" only amassed a billion views recently, it became one of the most popular songs of George Michael's time as it became number one in almost 25 countries worldwide as well as selling a whopping six million copies around the world and two million sales in the United States.

According to Variety, the original music video for the track was filmed in Miami, Florida, and was directed by Duncan Gibbins.

The video that is available on his official YouTube channel has already been edited as footage of George Michael performing at the Lyceum Theatre in London, United Kingdom, was later added.

As Mirror reported, the musician passed away on Christmas Day 2016. He was only 53 years old at the time of his passing.

It appears that the cause of his death was related to his health woes as he suffered from heart disease and a fatty liver.

The outlet also noted that the musician spent years recovering from his drug abuses and his longtime physicians believed that Michael knew he would die soon due to his health problems.
