What Happened to Rick Allen?

Allen was attacked by a man named Max Edward Hartley a day after Def Leppard's concert. The Fort Lauderdale Police released a report detailing that the 19-year-old suspect initially hid behind a pole before running toward the drummer and striking him.

He knocked him backward, causing him to slam his head on the ground and suffer injury.

The man was arrested but has since bonded out of jail. He was charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief, and abusing an elderly or disabled adult. The drummer lost his arm after a 1984 car accident but managed to continue playing drums with his right hand and both feet.

The drummer also broke his silence for the first time in a statement to ABC News (per Deadline). He expressed how thankful he is that his wife, Lauren Monroe, was not with him at the time of the attack.

He also revealed that they are together and currently recuperating in a safe space.

"We ask you to join us in our effort to move from confusion and shock to compassion and empathy. We understand this act of violence can be triggering for so many people," the statement continued. "To all of the fans, veterans, and first responders in our global community, we are thinking of you all. Together with love, we can all get through these difficult times."
