Dogstar Early Career, History

Dogstar was formed in Los Angeles, California. It was a random day for actor/musician Robert Mailhouse who was minding his business at a supermarket in the early 90s.

At the time, the soap opera actor was wearing a Detroit Red Wings hockey sweater and his top immediately caught Reeves' attention as he's a big fan of hockey and also a player.

He came up to Mailhouse to ask him if he needed a goalie. The duo's friendship officially kicked off at the time, leading them to explore more things, especially music.

When their connection got closer, the two loved jamming together as both of them have a knack in music. They were later joined by Gregg Miller who played the guitar for the group.

In a previous interview with Jimmy Fallon, Keanu Reeves explained that they started in a garage and later began writing music.

"You know, we started in a garage, and then you end up starting to write songs, and then you're like 'Let's go out and play them!' and then you're like 'Let's go on tour!' and then...you're playing," he said.

The band had several ideas for their name as they were initially called Small Fecal Matter and then later changed it to BFS, which stands for Big F****** Shit or Big F****** Sound.

One day, Robert Mailhouse stumbled upon the word "Dogstar" in the book Sexus by Henry Miller, leading them to settle with the name.

Why Did Dogstar Break Up More Than 20 Years Ago?

According to Guitar.com, the group disbanded after playing for more than a decade. The main reason was Keanu Reeves' conflicting project as he became an in-demand actor in Hollywood at the time.

Throughout their career, the group was able to release two albums titled "Our Little Visionary" and "Happy Ending."

They also toured with some of the biggest musical acts in the industry like Bon Jovi and once opened a show for David Bowie.

Today, the band hinted at their comeback as they took to their official Instagram account to share a photo of the three, saying there will be exciting news coming soon.
