Ed Sheeran, Alanis Morisette as 'American Idol' Judges?

According to a Variety report, Sheeran and Morisette will be stepping in as Richie and Perry fly overseas for King Charles III's coronation concert.

Not only will they be on the other side of the bench with Luke Bryan, but they will also be part of the competition in a way.

Ryan Seacrest announced it on the latest episode of "American Idol," which sent the contestants jumping for joy with the jam-packed episode next week.

Alanis Morisette will be taking part as a judge and a mentor for the show. Not only that, contestants will be taking on an Alanis Morisette week as they perform interpretations of her songs for the next round of shows.

Aside from Morisette, Ed Sheeran will also be a guest judge for a week. Seacrest also announced that the contestants would be teaming up for a duet performance of Sheeran's most popular songs for the coming week. Sheeran's appearance from the show was announced amid his high-profile copyright Infringement trial against Marvin Gaye's song "Let's Get It On."

A first time for both artists, Morisette and Sheeran will also be taking the stage for an all-out television performance!

With ages ranging from 17 to 25-year-olds, the final eight contestants will be going head to head for the final days of the competition. We Ani, Zachariah Smith, Megan Danielle, Haven Madison, Iam Tongi, Warren Peay, Oliver Steele, and Colin Stough, remained in the cutthroat Season 21 of "American Idol."
