According to Rock Hall Chairman John Sykes, top picks Willie Nelson and Kate Bush's selection to the Hall of Fame came after their prominence in current media skyrocketed recently.

Kate Bush's success was prominently credited to the inclusion of "Running Up That Hill" on "Stranger Things" Season 4 Soundtrack, which also became a worldwide phenomenon. It climbed 27 spots in the Billboard Hot 100 charts 37 years since it last charted.

As for Willie Nelson, his 90th Birthday Party came with a belated surprise gift. It was already "long overdue," Sykes described, noting that it was Dolly Parton's controversial induction last year that illuminated voters to understand that Rock N' Roll is right next to Gospel and R&B.

"I think that also shined a light on the incredible contributions that Willie's made in, what, 98 records that he's made over the years," he furthered.

Missy Elliott becomes the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Hall, too, following Eminem's induction last year. Like Missy, Sheryl Crow and George Michael were also first-time nominees who were already inducted. Meanwhile, the soul group, The Spinners, got on their fourth try.

Rage Against The Machine, on the other hand, was finally inducted after several years of being nominated. But per Sykes, the band's induction was made possible by a certain age group.

"I think the fact that that artists like Rage Against the Machine and a completely different-sounding artist, Sheryl Crow, got inducted is because we've added many younger voters to the general voting body," he mentioned.

Queen of Funk Chaka Khan was also inducted, along with Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin as Musical Excellence inductees. DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray were inducted as Musical Influence awardees, and Don Cornelius will be honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
