Ed Sheeran's streak of chart-topping albums continues unabated as - (Subtract) debuts at No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

The singer-songwriter's sixth studio album becomes the fastest-selling album of 2023 to date, transferring a staggering 76,000 chart units in its first week, with 71% of the total consisting of physical copies and an additional 10% of digital downloads. It is also the week's best-selling vinyl album.

"Subtract" also propels Ed Sheeran past The 1975 on the list of artists who have topped the charts with all of their studio albums, with six albums to The 1975's five.

 

Prior to this, Ed Sheeran had chart-topping success with + (2011), x (2014), (2017), No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019), and = (2021). Elsewhere, Nines' Crop Circle 2 maintains its position for a second week (2), while Manchester rapper TUNDE earns his first-ever Top 10 album with his debut release First Lap (4).

Beating Taylor Swift?

Former Kasabian vocalist Tom Meighan earns his first solo Top 40 album with The Reckoning (17), his debut studio album. Post Malone's The Diamond Collection climbs 11 spots to a new peak of No. 15 as he launches the United Kingdom and Ireland leg of his Twelve Carat Tour, which includes two nights at London's O2 Arena.

The original version of Taylor Swift's third studio album "Speak Now" returns to the Top 40 for the first time in thirteen years, following the highly anticipated announcement that she will release a completely re-recorded version of the album in July. 

The album has risen 54 positions to Number 23 this week, having originally peaked at Number 6 upon its 2010 release. In total, six of Taylor's albums are included in this week's Top 40.

With Hard Cold Fire (29), the Northern Irish rock trio Therapy? - Andy Cairns, Michael McKeegan, and Neil Cooper - celebrate their sixth Top 40 album and highest charting in 25 years. Find out where each Therapy? song and album charted in the United Kingdom. Hard Cold Fire also holds a Top 5 position on the Official Record Store Chart (2) this week. Katy Perry's 2010 album "Teenage Dream" returns to the Top 40 for the first time in a decade at number 38, following her show-stopping performance at last weekend's Coronation Concert in honor of King Charles III.
