"The Voice" Season 23 has finally reached its fever pitch as the Top 8 narrowed down to the Top 5. Three contestants were eliminated on the most recent episode as each coach had at least one finalist for the upcoming Grand Finale.

The show also made a major twist in announcing their results on national television, a big step down with a gripping hook that got audiences reeling at the end of the episode.

'The Voice' Top 5 Announcement

In the past "The Voice" has always delayed the announcement of the results after an episode of performance.

Comparing it to its competitor, "American Idol," the beloved reality singing competition usually has its contestants perform on the same episode and announce the results in the latter part of the show. The show had been doing these for the past few years.

As for "The Voice," they did step up this season, as they not only performed live, but they also opened the voting lines as soon as the last performer sang their hearts out. (via Too Fab)

The decision was put entirely into the hands of America after the eight contestants performed. The public vote only offered five minutes of voting, as one user can only vote for one artist they want to advance to the grand finale.

Unfortunately, Team Niall's 15-year-old Ryley Tate Wilson failed to make it to the finale after a promising run at the show. Performing Billy Joel's "Vienna," Wilson became one of Team Niall's frontrunners since the show started.

Team Chance's Ray Uriel also did not make it to the finale despite his smooth vocals. Lastly, Team Kelly's latest loss came from Holly Brand who performed "Rumor Has It" by none other than Reba McEntire.

Team Kelly has D.Smooth locked in the finals, too. Meanwhile, Team Chance and Team Niall made history this season as both new coaches managed to advance one artist to the grand finals - Sorelle and Gina Miles, respectively.
