"The Idol" has been receiving a lot of egging on social media recently following its mixed reviews reaction and feedback at the Cannes Film Festival premiere. The show also received a surprisingly low critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, prompting netizens to laugh at The Weeknd and Sam Levinson.

Despite some blowback, "The Idol" received some huge backing from a renowned industry figure - Sharon Stone.

Sharon Stone Lauds The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp on 'The Idol'

In an Instagram story that the "Basic Instincts" actress posted on social media, Stone had this to say:

"I just watched the first two episodes of @theidol @lilyrose_depp & Abel (@theweeknd) r so sure footed. #SamLevinson addresses the root of crisis in entertainment; Which comes first, the brilliance or the heartache?" she said in the post.

The Weeknd reposted the story, at a loss for words and only commented "wow" on his repost. (via HipHopDX)

Sharon Stone is one of the most revered actresses in Hollywood. She is a Primetime Emmy Awardee, a Golden Globe Awardee, and an Academy Award nominee, among many accolades.

Meanwhile, Stone shares the sentiment of the people at the screening of "The Idol" at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, who gave a five-minute triumphant standing ovation after the first two episodes were screened.

'The Idol' Brutally Scored on Rotten Tomatoes

Per Pop Buzz, "The Idol" debuted with a 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, a particularly low score for a show that has received a Cannes Film Festival standing ovation.

As of this writing, "The Idol" is rated 27% Critics' score, a score that still hasn't hit the 60% threshold of being reviewed positively by critics.

Months ago, a Rolling Stone expose revealed the dirty laundry of the show's production with staff members claiming the "toxic" environment at the production, among many other issues.

Meanwhile, Lily-Rose Depp, the show's lead star, remained unfazed by the criticism that has been thrown at her and the character.

"Jocelyn is a born and bred performer - and I think that extends to every aspect of her life, not just her professional life. The way that she dresses, for example, is her trying to tell you something all the time... or express herself in some kind of way," Depp explained.

Per the actress, the "occasional bareness" of her character Jocelyn physically mirrors the rawness and the authenticity that the audience would want to see from her from an emotional standpoint.

"The Idol" airs on HBO on Jun. 4, 2023. It stars The Weeknd, Lily Rose-Depp, Troye Sivan, and Jennie Kim among many others.
