"Wizards of Waverly Place" has been instrumental in the success of Selena Gomez's career. Playing Alex Russo, along with David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, and Jennifer Stone, among many others, has become a pop culture moment for many.

Gomez was among the biggest Disney stars back then, and getting an offer to do a spin-off show meant that the show might have been doing very well for it to reach a point like that.

'Wizards of Waverly Place' Spinoff

In an episode of Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise's "Wizards of Waverly Pod," the former revealed that there was supposed to be a spin-off show for her character, Harper Finkle, and her best friend, Selena Gomez's Alex Russo.

However, the idea did not materialize.

"I don't know how true this is, but I was told that it was pitched to Selena to do a Harper-Alex spinoff, and she said no because she had a lot of other things going on," she told the podcast.

Apparently, the idea was pitched and laid out around 2012, the same time when the hit Disney TV show rolled its final credits. However, Selena seemed to have declined the opportunity.

"I get it, she had a million other things going on and she wanted to move forward," Stone continued to say.

For her, she would have "wanted to move forward too." Stone further recalled that while the show "might have been great," she was sure that they both wanted to explore other things back then and delve deeper into their both blossoming careers.

After "Wizards," Stone went on to bag roles in television and film. She even directed and wrote her own independent film, "The In-Between." As for Gomez, the show was her stepping stone into bigger fame and success; it catapulted her to superstardom, which made her one of the biggest recording artists in the US.

"I can't begin to tell you guys without making it such a little cry session, I felt like I was the happiest I'd been in my whole life," she said at the time.
