Kelly Clarkson has had a tumultuous past few years. Divorcing with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock is not an easy feat, especially if you have two little children. She had to deal with those while enduring a grueling custody battle with her children, becoming a host on her Emmy-winning daytime talk show, coaching future music stars in "The Voice," and even releasing her new album, "Chemistry."

The rather huge steps in her life culminated in her decision to take her show and her family to New York, but the move was motivated by some other factors too.

Why Is Kelly Clarkson Moving to New York?

In a new interview with The TODAY Show, Kelly Clarkson revealed a thing or two about what motivated her to move to the East Coast from the West Coast, which is a huge adjustment for her, her children, and her show.

Speaking to the show, Clarkson revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has illuminated her more than ever, pointing out that her relationship made her realize a lot of things.

"It just proved I've never really liked living in LA," she said of living on the West Coast, which was "never her thing" despite living there for 2 decades.

She added that she doesn't want to live in California in the first place.

"I'm lonely there. Not as in, like, 'I need a boyfriend' kind of thing. Lonely as in, like, you miss your family, you miss just having any family, or that kind of relationship," she continued to say.

In May 2023, Variety exclusively reported that Clarkson will now be relocating to New York City as her show will now be doing production in Rockefeller Center.

Aside from moving to The Big Apple because she simply did not want to live in California anymore, it seemed like Clarkson was inspired artistically.

Kelly Clarkson Doing Broadway

Upon news that she would be moving to New York, some entertainment insiders also speculated that the Grammy-winning singer might be heading to Broadway soon. Alas, shortly after, she confirmed to Nancy O'Dell on the show talkshoplive, that she is actually writing right now.

In the same TODAY Show interview, Clarkson elaborated more on hitting the stage (or backstage).

"I've been writing a show but it was more, I could be in it, but it was more of like a behind the scenes kind of thing ... I've been doing that for like a year and a half now but like, I'm interested in that.," she admitted. "I think I would like my kids to get established here, me to get established here. But I love Broadway and that's one of the main reasons why I did move here."

Whatever Clarkson wanted, we will be waiting for it, definitely! Also, her latest album, "Chemistry," will be released tomorrow, Jun. 23, 2023.
