Jason Mraz Bio

Jason Thomas Mraz was born on June 23, 1977 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. As a musician, Jason is now based in California as he renders a laid-back, melodic pop beat that angles towards folk, jam band music, hip hop, and soft rock music as per All Music

Mraz was reportedly an active member of his musical theater team while he was in high school. While Jason was a student at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, the then aspiring singer learned how to play the guitar. Because of this feat, Jason decided to drop out of school to concentrate on his new passion at the time-songwriting.

How Jason Mraz Started His Music Career

Jason moved around in different regions in America. However, when he finally settled in San Diego, Mraz performed live regularly in various coffee houses. Prior to getting a record deal from a music label, Jason frequently got career support from percussionist, Noel "Tocca" Rivera.

Rivera guided Mraz in enhancing the latter's talent in performing live as a singer while Jason released a number of homemade sets performances , which included 1999's "A Jason Mraz Demonstration" and "Live at Lava Joe's" (2001). Having landed a weekly residency in a coffeehouse in San Diego paved the way for Jason to eventually be signed on by Elektra records in 2001. At this point in time, Jason was chosen as a supporting act for fellow singer, Jewel's tour at the early part of the coming year.
