Elton John's Glastonbury Set was perhaps one of the best performances at the annual music festival in years! Perhaps it was because it was Elton's last live performance in the United Kingdom as he announced his retirement!

However, many were sad that Dua Lipa wasn't able to come to the set despite being one of the most reported artists to be accompanying Elton on the set.

Why Was Dua Lipa Absent on Elton John's Glastonbury Festival Set?

Per NME Magazine, Dua Lipa was absent from Elton John's Glastonbury festival performance because she was busy hosting her family at a watch party of Elton's performance.

"Cooking for my friends and fam," she simply captioned her Instagram story while posting a photo of the dinner. Afterward, the publication said that she showed support for John by posting a video of him performing "Cold Heart" onstage.

Lipa and John have developed a great friendship over the years. They collaborated on the song "Cold Heart" which was later remixed by Australian trio PNAU. The song was included on John's latest album, "The Lockdown Sessions," which was released in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite Lipa's absence from the performance, John still performed the song, using Lipa's backing vocals instead.

Elton John Glastonbury Performance

Although Lipa was absent, Elton John managed to pull a great show for everyone. She invited Rina Sawayama onstage, Stephen Sanchez, The Gabriel's Jacob Lusk, and even The Killers' Brandon Flowers.

He also sang a medley of his classics including "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "The Bitch is Back," "Tiny Dancer," and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." Aside from Lipa rumors that Britney Spears will be having a surprise appearance on the performance were rumored, but that too, did not materialize.

As Flowers and John performed, they both witnessed a magical moment onstage when an audience at the crowd got engaged during the Glastonbury Festival.

Aerial shots of the performance were breathtaking given the sheer size of the crowd at the Worthy Farm in Somerset, England on the closing night of Glastonbury 2023!

"I want to thank you for all dressing up in your costumes and your glasses and your outfits ... it makes me feel so happy. Thank you for your love. And I want to thank you, also, for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you've shown me," John told the huge crowd last Sunday.
