Elton John has been active in the music industry for decades now and he was able to achieve legendary status thanks to his unique take on music, fashion, advocacy, and more.

However, there is still one more honorable title that the iconic musician has yet to achieve, getting an EGOT status (a person who won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards).

Fortunately for the musician, he is now eligible to achieve EGOT status as his farewell concert special was nominated at this year's Emmy Awards.

Elton John Honored to Get an Emmy Nomination

According to Deadline, the "Your Song" hitmaker received a nod from the prestigious award-giving body on July 12.

His "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium" was nominated for the Outstanding Variety Special category."

The live special was streamed via Disney+, it featured his final show in North America. It was filmed at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

In a statement posted on his official Instagram account, the 76-year-old musician said, "It's an honor for my Special to be recognized by the Academy. My final Dodger Stadium performance was bittersweet and an evening that I will never forget."

He credited his team, Disney+, and Fulwell 73 for their talents that made the show possible not only for him as he bid farewell to North America as it was his last time performing in the continent, but also for his fans around the globe to enjoy the show in the coming years.

Elton John EGOT Status: His Journey to Winning All Awards

Per the outlet, Elton John has been running to get his EGOT status since 1986 when his song "That's What Friends Are For" with Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Dionne Warwick won the Grammy Award Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

In 1994, he managed to bag an Academy Award (Oscar) for the track "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" featured in "The Lion King."

Lastly, he snagged a Tony Award for his work on the musical "Aida."

Regarding the Emmy Awards, this is the first time John had been nominated in the awards show which mainly focuses on television achievements.

If ever he wins this category this year, he would be the 19th person to get the EGOT status.

Other EGOT winners include Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis, Barbara Streisand, Liza Minelli, Cher, and many more.
