2023 Emmy Award Nominees For Outstanding Original Music & Lyrics

Ginny & Georgia - "Marriage is a Dungeon"

Performed in the eighth episode of the second season of the hit Netflix show "Ginny & Georgia," "Marriage is a Dungeon" is one of the songs that Ginny's high school production of "Wellington," a fusion between "Bridgerton" and "Into the Woods."

It is quite a lyrical play of how the Witch warns the lead mademoiselle that "love is just a weapon" and "beauty is an illusion" into a harmonic villain duet. Emmy voters seemed to love Villain songs lately as "WandaVision's" "Agatha All Along," makes a huge win at the 2021 Emmy Awards.

The L Word: Generation - "All About Me"

The hair-raising anthem from the Showtime series gets a nod this season, as the characters take on ayahuasca on a retreat, they were taken into a shamanic spiritual and musical journey that made them sing about their trauma and aspirations in life. The song was featured on the show's musical episode which is perhaps one of the most-well loved episodes of the underrated show.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - "Your Personal Trash Can Man"

Called by fans as one of the best scenes in the third season, the Newsies-inspired number saw four trashcan men singing it out as if they were in New York, pumped with the energy-inducing number that the show has always provided. This was the third song from the show to be nominated, and this third time might be the perfect charm the show needed!

Ted Lasso - "Fought & Lost" & "A Beautiful Game"

The shocker for this year was the two nominations for the sports comedy-drama television series, "Ted Lasso." Snagging two nominations for the Music and Lyrics category, the incredible touchdown is a home run for Ed Sheeran who is the writer for the latter song. Should he win this, he could be halfway to an EGOT already!

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story - "Now You Know"

Already a front-runner in the category, Al Yankovic seemed to be the most fitting song for the "weirdest" American biographical parody film ever. Blending various songs from different musicals and genres, "Now You Know" easily proves that Yankovic is one of the bests out there in his specific niche.

2023 Emmy Award Nominees Music & Lyrics Snubs

"Daisy Jones & The Six," the highly-acclaimed drama musical series in television in the past year was missing from the category. The show submitted three songs for consideration, "Let Me Down Easy," "Look at Us Now (Honeycomb)" and "The River," Variety reports.

The three songs from the fictional album "Aurora" obviously didn't make it to the cut, despite being one of the most earworm songs on television in the past few months.
