Shania Twain had an unexpected and unfortunate tumble recently.

TMZ shared the video which happened during her 76-date concert tour in Chicago.

This raised concerns that the iconic singer might still be suffering from the effects of Lyme disease, which has plagued her for two decades.

However, the "Still The One" singer showed remarkable resilience and persevered to finish the show - despite the painful reminder that this illness may ultimately continue to prove difficult to defeat.

In 2003, a horseback ride ended with the country-pop performer being bitten by a bug, ultimately leading to her contracting an ailment that caused severe damage to the nerves in her vocal cords as well as mini blackouts.

Her instability was so great that she claimed "I was afraid I was going to fall off the stage." before finally receiving a diagnosis.

Faced with her decreasing health, the renowned hitmaker decided to take a break from making music and underwent throat surgery.

Unfortunately, this meant she had to relearn how to sing all over again.

A friend commented on the concerning news, telling Radar Online: "It is scary for her to think these horrible symptoms she's suffered are coming back now."

Drawing on his extensive expertise, Dr. Gabe Mirkin has commented on the unpredictable nature of Lyme disease.

According to the expert, this affliction is "very strange," as it can spread through many organs and tissues, such as those in the muscles, brain, or vocal cords.

Though antibiotics may temporarily control its effects, Mirkin states that there is no clear-cut treatment for this illness - a fact made evident by Shania Twain's case.

Shania Twain Lyme Disease

Shania Twain has released a documentary for Netflix entitled "Not Just a Girl" which documents some of the toughest times she has experienced, including her struggles with Lyme disease and the breakdown of her union with husband and music collaborator Robert "Mutt" Lange.

Through this documentary, the singer-songwriter opens up about her trials.

In 2003, Shania was about to embark on a tour that promised to be incredibly successful, considering all the chart-topping singles and the record-breaking album "Come On Over" she had released.

Before heading out though, she decided to take a horseback ride - an event which would completely shift her career path.

Shania was not only facing a potential end to her singing career but also an end to her marriage with Lange. Twain had been in a professional relationship with Mutt before they wed in 1993, and they shared one son, Aja.

Her illness caused her great difficulty in controlling her vocals, leaving Shania helpless against its power.
