Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga started their collaboration in 2014 and at the time, many were shocked because an unlikely pair of a legendary jazz singer and a major pop superstar could create so something magical.

Amid the musician's death, let's revisit the heartwarming friendship of two of the most iconic musicians in the industry who won numerous awards and sold millions of albums worldwide.

It all began at the Robin Hood Foundation charity gala. At the time, the pop star performed a jazz song titled "Orange Colored Sky" originally sung by Nat King Cole.

Gaga is known for her risqué outfits, club-ready music, and controversial performances. But since she performed a genre that not many people knew she did in the past, Bennett was impressed.

How Did Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga Meet?

In a previous interview with People Magazine, the singer said, "Tony heard me sing it, and he asked to meet me after the show. And I said, 'Oh my gosh! Tony Bennett's here!'"

At the time, the pop songstress was so nervous as she looked up to the legendary musician growing up. She immediately fixed her hair and her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, also fixed her makeup and then went backstage to meet him.

Gaga recalled that upon meeting him, he immediately asked her to create a jazz album together and the pop star couldn't say no to that.

"Ever since then, we've just been close. We just love performing with one another. She's terrific," Tony Bennett said.

The pair later released their first collaboration ever titled "The Lady is a Tramp" for his album "Duets II."

Years after they first teamed up, the duo released their smash album "Cheek to Cheek" in 2014.

Lady Gaga would always remember Bennett as she has a special tattoo on her body. She said in a previous interview that she asked the musician to sketch him a trumpet and she later got it inked on her arm with the text "Benedetto," which is his last name.

Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett Heartwarming Moment

According to Entertainment Weekly, the duo performed in a CBS special for their second and final collaborative album titled "Love for Sale." At the time, it was also Bennett's last performance ever.

As reported by 60 Minutes, there was an emotional and heartfelt moment during their show as Tony Bennett, who battled Alzheimer's disease, said Lady Gaga's name for the first time in a long time.

"When I walked out on that stage and he said 'it's Lady Gaga,' my friends saw me, and it was special," Gaga told Anderson Cooper in the interview.
