Robbie Robertson, popularly known for being the frontman and guitarist of the famous group The Band, has died at the age of 80; how did he pass away?

His longtime manager, Jared Levine, confirmed the tragic news by releasing a statement as he noted that the musician was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.

He is survived by his wife Janet, ex-wife, Dominique, her partner Nicholas, and his children Alexandra, Delphine and Dominique. (via Billboard)

Just before he died, he collaborated with Martin Scorsese again for "Killers of the Flower Moon," which was considered to be his 14th film music project.

His family is asking the public to donate to the Six Nations of the Grand River to support "a new Woodland Cultural Centre" instead of sending flowers.

Robertson reportedly passed away after a long battle with an illness, but details behind his actual medical condition has been kept from the public.

Robbie Robertson has been fascinated with music ever since he was a kid as he started to play the guitar at the age of 10.

Six years after mastering the instrument, he collaborated with Levon Helm in the group called the Hawks to be the backing band for Ronnie Hawks.

Although they were just teenagers when they started in the music industry, their careers later skyrocketed as they also accompanied Bob Dylan on his "Going Electric" tours in 1965 and 1966.

They later changed their name to The Band. Aside from the two, other members include Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Jim Weider, Richard Bell Stan Szelest, and Randy Ciarlante.

They were able to release some of the most iconic records throughout their career like "Islands," "High on the Hog," "Stage Fright," "Rock of Ages," and many more.

Unfortunately, just eight years after its conception, The Band decided to part ways with one another and it was Robertson who decided to disband in 1976 with a farewell concert called "The Last Waltz."

Robbie Robertson later entered the world of film and movies as he composed music for the movies "Carny," "Raging Bull," "King Of Comedy," "The Color Of Money," and many more.

His frequent collaborator in these projects was Martin Scorsese.

Aside from composing music for films, he also became a solo artist and even got nominated for a Grammy Award in 1987.
