August 08 was a Def Jam Records producer and singer-songwriter. His sudden death was relayed to fans through the 88rising, a music collective to which he belonged. He was 31.
"It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Ray Jacobs, also known as AUGUST 08," the music collective's official statement read.
While not a lot of people may know who exactly August 08 is, they will most certainly know the music he has produced and wrote.
He has worked with several of the biggest artists in the music industry, like DJ Khaled, Kehlani, and more. He also served as a mentor to the rising stars of 88rising.
"RIP August the kindest and most talented genius you will be missed beyond words. Thank you for being an amazing mentor and a steadfast friend through all these years. We are forever grateful to you and the joy you brought in every room, through every song. Your energy, guidanc, and care gave so much inspiration and strength that will be carried on always."
August 08's Legacy
August 08 or August Grant was born Ray Jacobs. His career flourished with Def Jam Records, as he produced hit after hit like DJ Khaled's "I'm the One."
"The entire Def Jam family mourns the tragic loss of Ray 'August 08' Jacobs," Def Jam Records' rep said of the producer's death.
"A brilliant songwriter, an accomplished musician, and a singular artist, August will remain in our memory as a beloved colleague and friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones."
Numerous artists have also paid tribute to August 08, like Big Sean, Jeleel, Vince Staples, and more.

August 08's Music Career
According to reports, the late producer was also a talented singer-songwriter who had recently signed with Jhene Aiko's label, Allel Sound, where he released, "Towards the Moon."
Aiko had nothing but great things to say about August 08 following their successful contract signing last year. "August is an incredible writer, singer and artist whose music speaks to me on so many levels... As a fellow Los Angeles native, I am so proud of him.
"August's talent, love for songwriting and hands on approach with his art is something I can relate to and have a great amount of respect for. It was a natural evolution of our friendship and musical collaboration to have him become the first artist signed to Allel Sound. I couldn't be more excited to work with August."
August 08's cause of death has not been revealed to the public as of this writing.
