Desiigner is not required to register as a sex offender; his lawyers announced this in order to dispel the rumors and false reports following his sentencing.

"Regarding the issue of Mr. Selby registering as a sex offender, many news outlets have incorrectly stated that he is required to register as an absolute condition of his probation. They are wrong," Ryan Garry, the rapper's lawyer, told People magazine.

Desiigner, whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III, was, however, sentenced to 120 hours of community service as well as a fine of $5,000, and will reportedly remain under probation for the next two years.

This came after the "Panda" rapper was caught masturbating by a Delta flight crew during their trip from Tokyo, Japan to Minneapolis last Apr. 17.

"Since this was a federal misdemeanor, the sentencing judgment states that if the State of California or some other government entity requires that Mr. Selby must register as a sex offender, then he must."

Garry had to shut down the rumors after a false report that Desiigner was to register as a sex offender came about and sort of went viral.

The report was by TMZ, which also noted that the rapper was also barred from owning or possessing firearms.

Desiigner Charged, Sentenced for Public Indecency

According to the Daily Mail UK, Desiigner was experiencing "dehydration, exhaustion from the music tour and travel, the marijuana he ingested, and the medication he received from [a] Thailand hospital." which is why he did what he did.

And that the aforementioned circumstances "contributed in some way to the poor decisions Mr. Selby made on that airplane."

The rapper had to check himself into a mental facility after the incident and receive treatment for his "admitted issues."

Desiigner Not Required to Register as a Sex Offender

Garry then noted that it is a case to case basis, but seeing how Desiigner was grappling with his "issues," they thought it was just a misdemeanor.

"However, the parties in this case have come to the legal conclusion, after significant research and consultation with lawyers in California, that this misdemeanor conviction is not one that will cause Mr. Selby to have to register as a sex offender," the lawyer continued.

"If some government agency in California disagrees with our analysis, then we will address the matter at that point in time."
