Paul Rodgers released his first solo studio album in nearly 25 years but almost failed to drop it.

On Friday, September 22, Rodgers released his newest LP, "Midnight Rose" and presented eight new songs, including "Living It Up."

"My new album 'Midnight Rose' grew from sparks of ideas I had," he said before the album's release. "The sparks developed into a raging fire when the band and everyone involved brought their absolute 'A' game. I think it is my best album to date, I like it. I hope you do too."

However, the Bad Company vocalist revealed that he almost did not make it after suffering a terrifying health issue.

What Happened to Paul Rodgers?

Following the release of his new album, Rodgers appeared on "CBS Mornings" on Wednesday, September 27, during which he detailed the health crisis he went through.

According to the singer, he suffered two major strokes in 2016 and 2019 on top of the 11 other minor strokes he faced. He added that the terrifying condition almost derailed his music career.

"I couldn't do anything to be honest," he explained. "I couldn't speak. That was a very strange thing. You know, I'd prepare something in my mind and I'd say it, but that isn't what came out and I'd go, 'What the heck did I just say?'"

Rodgers underwent a carotid endarterectomy after his second and latest stroke in 2019 to remove a plaque build-up from his arteries that connects his neck to the brain. At that time, his doctors reportedly warned him of the serious risks, including effects on his voice, because the procedure site was close to his vocal cords.

He was also warned that he might not come out of the operation room alive. Fortunately, he woke up and realized he survived the operation.

Although he initially suffered issues with his voice, Rodgers was able to recuperate and return to the music industry after six months.

His wife, Cynthia Kereluk Rodgers, said the ordeal was terrifying that she spent most of her time praying. She then recalled hearing Rodgers sing again, emotionally calling it "amazing and just phenomenal" since she thought it would never happen again.

Rodgers' recovery helped him create and finish his album, "Midnight Rose." He has yet to share whether he plans to release a follow-up album immediately or if he will tour again soon.
