Tupac Shakur's murder case probe reached a new development after a grand jury indicted a man on charges related to the 1996 killing.

The Las Vegas authorities confirmed that a grand jury indicted Duane Keith "Keffee D" Davis on charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department detectives previously obtained a search warrant to explore Keffe D's Henderson, Nev., home.

Duane Keith "Keffee D" Davis Arrested in Connection With Tupac Shakur's Murder

The Associated Press confirmed that Keffe D was arrested on Friday, September 29, morning in Las Vegas, months after the search was done in July.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during a news conference that, while the arrested man was not the accused gunman, he was the ringleader of the group that allegedly killed the rapper.

"For 27 years, the family of Tupac Shakur has been waiting for justice," said McMahill, per CNN. "The investigation started on the night of September 7th, 1996. It is far from over. It has taken countless hours, really decades, of work by the men and women of our homicide section to get to where we are today."

Police department's homicide Lt. Johansson said the murder occurred after a conflict between the two gangs in Compton, Calif., emerged. He explained that Shakur and the former CEO of Death Row Records, Marion "Shuge" Knight, were affiliated with the Mob Piru gang.

Davis, on the other hand, was a member of the Southside Compton Crips.

Johansson added that the convicted man was a shotcaller for the group that killed Shakur and the one who orchestrated the plan.

In his past interviews and memoir "Compton Street Legend," Davis admitted that he gave the group the gun that was used to kill Shakur in the drive-by shooting. The 2019 book and his public statements led the police to reopen the investigation.

"We have been through decades of pain. They have known about this guy, who been running his mouth, for years," Shakur's stepbrother, rapper Mopreme Shakur, said. "So why now? For us, this is not over. We want to know why, and if there were any accomplices."

Tupac Shakur died days after he was shot due to the extreme gunshot wounds he sustained.
