Brian Johnson was born on October 5, 1947 in New Castle Upon Tyne, England. As a teen, Johnson performed alongside with a church choir. In the 1960's, though, rock and roll was the music in trend for many adolescents. As such, it wasn't a challenge for Johnson to quickly be taken with this music genre at his age.

In 1972, Brian Johnson created his own rock band called, USA, as per All Music.

USA changed their group's name into Geordie. The band focused on making it big amongst the growing U.K. glam rock scene fans. The results paid off, as USA succeeded in generating hits at home, in the UK. Among of these hits included the Top ten hit, "All Because of You" and the Top twenty hit, "Can You Do It."

Geordie eventually disbanded in 1976. Geordie reunited in 1980, however, just as the band had signed a new record contract, AC/DC invited Johnson to audition for the lead vocalist position in the latter band for the spot that was recently vacated. Bon Scott previously held this position prior to his death on February 1980 due to alcohol poisoning.
