Entertainment Weekly recently had the chance to sit down with actor, singer, and long-time heartthrob Zac Efron.
During the interview for his upcoming film "The Iron Claw" - based on professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich and his family - viewers were taken aback by the significant transformation in the former "High School Musical" singer-actor's appearance.
Zac, 36, provided insight into his noticeably fuller jawline and face transformation. He explained that it was the result of a severe accident that occurred two years ago - his chin smashed into a granite fountain.
Despite speculation of plastic surgery before this incident, he finally revealed the truth behind his new look.
But when the new interview was released, people couldn't believe what they saw.
"What happened to his face?!" one fan asked, while others joked and called him "huge."
It made some comparisons between him and characters like Thanos in "Avengers" or Prince Farquaad from "Shrek."
However, other people kindly reminded everyone of his previous broken jaw.
Two years after the gossip of plastic surgery began to spread, Zac Efron graced the cover of Men's Health Magazine and opened up about his change of appearance.
During his conversation with the magazine, Zac shed some light on what had happened to his face - an unfortunate incident at home was to blame.
As he sprinted across his residence, memories of how he lost his footing and fell forward sprang to mind.
With a thud, his chin collided with a stone fountain - all because of those "pesky socks."
Zac noted that due to his injury, the masseter muscles on either side of his face began to "compensate" with an increased size and development. This was the cause of his impressive physical transformation.
In his own words, the "17 Again" star explains why his face had changed so much - "The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big."
Incredibly, the actor claimed not to be aware of how huge an internet sensation his jaw transformation had made until his mum phoned to ask whether or not plastic surgery was involved.
"If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do. I definitely wouldn't be able to do this work."
April 2021 saw Zac Efron dominate the Twitter trends, and it was all due to a video of him celebrating Earth Day.
But that time, his facial features changed with a broader jawline and a more prominent square chin.
The clip showed him enthusing about Bill Nye, who was collaborating with Justin Bieber on an Earth Day musical production.
Rumors began circulating that the popular celebrity had gone under the knife for a cosmetic upgrade.
