How much did Shane MacGowan make before his death?

For decades, MacGowan established his career as a band member and a soloist. He famously became The Pogues' lead singer, helping the band release hit studio albums including "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" and "Red Roses For Me."

Though he was removed from the band in 1991, he went on to expand his career as a solo musician and the founder of Shane MacGowan and The Popes before returning to his original group a few years later.

His contributions to the music industry were recognized by different accolades. He received most of the recognitions in the years before his death, including the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award in 2018.

In January of the same year, he celebrated his 60th birthday in a special concert gala at Dublin's National Concert Hall. At that time, Irish President Michael D. Higgins awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award.

His band, The Pogues, received a similar recognition at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in 2006.

Shane MacGowan Dead at 65

MacGowan's wife, Victoria Clarke, released a statement on his Instagram page on Thursday, November 30. BBC reported that the musician died peacefully at 3:30 a.m. on that day surrounded by his wife and his sister.

"Thank you thank you thank you thank you for your presence in this world you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music," she wrote. "You will live in my heart forever. Rave on in the garden all wet with rain that you loved so much. You meant the world to me."

MacGowan's death came a year after he was diagnosed with viral encephalitis. He was in and out of the medical facility until he was discharged on November 22, only a week before he died.

In 1989, he opened up about how he wanted to live his life, saying he aimed to spend his days on his terms.

"I have no ambitions," MacGowan said. "I used to have ambitions, but I have none anymore. I just want to enjoy life the way it is and do my best to stop it from becoming hell on earth."
