Happy birthday, Neil Diamond!

Neil Diamond Bio

Neil Leslie Diamond was born on January 24, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. Diamond is the eldest among two sons of his parents, father, Akeeba Diamond (also known as Kieve) and mother, Rose Diamond. As per All Music, Neil's father, Akeeba, ran a couple of dry goods stores in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Neil spent two years of his life living in Wyoming while Akeeba served in the military during the mid-1940's. Except for those years, Neil spent his childhoood in Brooklyn. Word has it that Diamond ended up having to attend nine different schools as a result of the family moving out and about in different homes in Brooklyn due to Akeeba's business operations. Neil shared that he did suffer social setbacks as a result of the family's frequent change of residences while he was young.

Young Neil showed an early interest in music by pursuing singing and guitar playing after he saw Pete Seeger's performance at a camp that Neil attended as a teen. In June 1958, Neil Diamond graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, and the following fall, the aspiring musician became a pre-med student at New York University after he had gotten a fencing scholarship.

Neil Diamond Early Music Career Beginnings, Hits, and Accomplishments

Neil Diamond's early beginning in pursuing a music career ensued when he sought to become a professional songwriter in the business. Several partnerships arose out of Diamond's quest to formally launch his songwriting career, and even led to Neil attempting to launch that career on his own at some point in time.

Neil Diamond's journey on embarking on a songwriting career didn't took off successfully as expected, after he tried to partner with multiple people and worked hard on his own to make this career come into fruition. However, the golden opprtunity in the music business for Neil Diamond came when he released his debut studio album, "The Feel of Neil Diamond" in August 1966. This album yielded songs, "Cherry, Cherry" and "Solitary Man."

The Neil Diamond-penned song for The Monkees, "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You" (1967) reached the number two spot of the singles chart in April 1967.
