    Though the 45th anniversary of The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album came in March, the album's deluxe 45th anniversary box set was released today, Nov. 24. The album was the band's first without founding member John Cale and marked a noticeable shift in their sound, away from the avant-garde noise of their first two albums and toward more subdued pop that would go on to influence countless indie rock bands.     Fifty years ago on this date Marvin Gaye entered the charts with "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)". The track was far from his first on the Motown label but it did have the most chart success among the singles he had released up to that point, peaking at no. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. We hesitate to call it his most recognizable song—because he's had an unusual number of tracks that have become cultural standards compared to most in his era—but "I wanna stop and thank ya baby" is an instantly recognizable line. Enough so that a number of performers have tried their hands at the song over the last five decades.

    Today involved a rather curious/mortifying news update for those who weren't previously aware that Frédéric Chopin's heart has been stored in a crystal jar full of alcohol, which itself is housed inside a pillar at the Holy Trinity Church in Warsaw. A few scientists and lay folk did a quick checkup to make sure the organ was still in good condition and then put it back, to be checked on another 50 years. It kind of makes us curious what other famous musicians have mysterious final resting places. None are as quirky as Chopin's (the rest of his body is in Paris, if curious) but there are some graves that get/got little attention for a while.
