This week during 1990 marked a new high for female musicians everywhere, as all five of the top songs on the Hot 100 were performed by women. That sounds impressive but female performers have been getting their due even more so in recent years: During 2014, the Top 5 of the Hot 100 was held down by women for seven consecutive weeks. Music Times figured it'd be fun to compare the hits of yesteryear to today, having the Top 5 from this week during 1990 face off with September of 2014...Madonna, Taylor Swift, Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj and more.
  • Taylor Swift's 7 Most Watched Videos ('Bad Blood' is Only No. 16!)

Taylor Swift fans already know that "Bad Blood," the most recent single from Taylor Swift's 1989, has been tearing up YouTube thanks to a music video starring Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Ellie Goulding and a multitude of others. That sort of hype helped it grab the record for most views in a 24-hour period on VEVO, taking the prize from Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda." Nonetheless, it's still only the no. 16 in terms of total views for Swift music videos. Check out the Top 7 on YouTube as of publication.
  • PacSun Shoppers Upset at A$AP Mob Shirt Featuring Upside-Down Flag

Pacific Sunwear picked the worst possible time to blatantly advertise merchandise from the A$AP Mob (home to A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg and others) that depicts an upside-down American flag. The store came under fire for carrying the product both in its stores and online when an aggrieved shopper posted a photo of a store mannequin wearing the offending piece of apparel. The black shirt features the flag upside-down on the front, with other logos on the sleeves.
  • Chevelle Fan Impaled in Concert Accident at Chicago Show

Chevelle had to deal with some horrifying events at a recent concert in Chicago this weekend as a fan fell from a catwalk and was impaled on metal poles below. Fortunately the gruesome sight occurred away from the line-of-sight for the fans in attendance, but that's still a terrible thought for anyone to deal with.

The death of B.B. King has largely been marked by joyous tributes to one of the most influential guitarists of all time, but now things have taken a dark turn as two of his daughters have accused aides of poisoning the blues legend. The Associated Press acquired court documents filed last week.
  • Tinashe Sings 'The Times They Are A Changin'' to Bob Dylan in 2003 [VIDEO]

Tinashe has figured out her way into the entertainment industry at this point—appearing on songs that may be part of Drake's next album and all—but she was trying to impress the best way before that. New video has emerged from 2003 that shows a young girl singing "The Times They Are a Changin'" to Bob Dylan himself.
  • Oasis Guitarist Noel Gallagher Hates Being Confused for Brother Liam

Perhaps you've heard that neither Liam Gallagher nor Noel Gallagher have any interest in reforming Oasis, and you'd be correct to assume the pair are sick of being asked about it by the media. There's something that guitarist Noel hates even more however (also more than he hates when you pronounce his name "no-well"): people who can't tell the difference between he and his brother.
  • The Charts and The Gulf War: Mariah Carey, MC Hammer and Aerosmith [Memorial Day Special]

Memorial Day 2015 bears a special significance for two reasons: More importantly, it's the first time in 14 years that the holiday has been celebrated with no American troops involved in a "major ground war," and it's also the 25th anniversary of the first invasion of Iraq during the Gulf War. We at Music Times can do little but throw out our thanks to those who have served and those who currently serve in the United States military, but we wanted to check out what the Billboard charts looked like on both dates, August 2, 1991 and October 7, 2001, the dates when Americans last became embroiled in foreign combat.

  • A$AP Rocky Instagram Art Installation Leads to 100,000 Drop in Followers

A$AP Rocky is not one to conform to norms, and his progressive approach to the arts led to a loss of more than 100,000 Instagram followers from his account last week. The Harlem rapper posted a long series of images that, when looked at together, formed a rather inviting collage, but as individual pieces tested the patience of followers.
  • Surfer Blood Tour Van Robbed, Losses Include Cancer Treatement Funds for Guitarist

Surfer Blood is reeling after a break-in not only sapped the band of its tour earnings but also resulted in the loss of money gathered for cancer treatments for guitarist Thomas Fekete.
