After Selena Gomez announced that she will take a break from her music career due to her current health condition, Demi Lovato has stepped in to take her place as a headliner at the upcoming 2016 Global Citizen Festival in New York City.

Through a video posted on her Twitter account, the "Cool for the Summer" singer said that she is excited to be part of the annual event, which focuses on urging world leaders to implement policies for health, education, the environment and women's equality.

"In 2015 world leaders came together for the first time and recognized the promotion of mental health and well-being as a top priority within the global development agenda," Lovato said in the short clip. "I am excited and proud to support this cause and perform at the Global Citizen Festival."

This year's event will take place in New York City's Central Park on Sept. 24, according to People. Aside from Lovato, the Global Citizen Festival will also be headlined by various artists including Metallica, Diplo, Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Usher, Chris Martin and more. The upcoming event will be hosted by Priyanka Chopra and Neil Patrick Harris.

As noted by Hugh Evans, the founder and CEO of Global Citizen, having Lovato at the festival is a great addition to the event due to her personal advocacies.

"Demi has been an incredible ambassador for global health and gender equality campaigns for many years," Evans said in a statement to People. "We are so thrilled to align her artistry and advocacy and have her join us as a headliner at the 2016 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park!"
