The much-awaited sequel of the cult classic "Super Troopers" is finally given a release date. Interestingly, the date chosen for "Super Troopers 2," April 20, 2018 or 4/20, is considered a date for cannabis-related activities.

The release date was teased by cast member Steve Lemme during an interview with Vermont's Seven Days. Lemme, who plays police officer MacIntyre "Mac" Womack, stated that the "Super Troopers 2" is scheduled for an obvious date in the month of April that would fall on a Friday. True enough, April 20 will be on a Friday in 2018.

Dropping additional bombs, Lemme shared that the testing for "Super Troopers 2" is coming out really well, with the comedian referring to it as fantastic. Movieweb also adds that "Super Troopers 2" will have one of the nastiest and greasiest love scenes in movies, which happens between Lemme's character Mac and Kevin Hefferman's Rod Farva. As for the question about the 17-year gap between the original and the sequel, he said that although they didn't really want to give an answer, they will provide one in the movie itself.

April 20, also stylized as 4/20, has been considered by many cannabis users as a day to celebrate and consume the item, and many countries are observing the event. Protests have also been staged during the said date, usually pushing for the legalization and liberalization of cannabis, whether locally or worldwide. Many possible origins are considered for the tem, with one stemming from a codename the group "The Waldos" used to find a planted cannabis plant in their area.

Produced and written by the American comedy group Broken Lizard, "Super Troopers 2" is directed by the group's own Jay Chandrasekhar and would take place after the events of the first film. The sequel is a result of a successful crowdfunding campaign, showing a demand for their brand of comedy.
